Western and central Asia plus some in Spain and north Africa

Food

Dive and swim under water for small fish and crustaceans but eat more vegetable matter.

Field Notes:

More likely to swim away from percieved threats rather than flying. Considered endangered due to a large reduction in populations in the last 10 years due to habitat loss and hunting, but interbreeding of the Spanish population with the introduced ruddy duck.
