Food

Unable to dive, they feed on the surface for fish, krill, squid, jellyfish. On land they feed on dead seal and sea lion, roadkill, starfish, snails and human food refuse.

Field Notes:

In the late 1900s their population suffered because of eggs stolen to feed the growing San Francisco population. The gulls are a problem at the end of San Francisco Giants games when they swarm the stadium to eat the leftover food from the fans.
