Forages on the ground by pecking and scratching for plant matter plus the occasional invertebrates.

Field Notes:

Although numbers are generally strong, significant declines in sagebrush habitat could be expected to decrease populations in the near future. The sagebrush habitat is frequently threatened by bush encroachment or the invasion of herbaceous plants.
