Preferred Habitat
Preferred habitat is arid to mesic oak woodlands although they also occur in riparian sites and chaparral in the southern parts of its range where oaks are not in abundance.
Distribution and Range
From northern California just into northern Mexico.
Food
Feeds primarily on insect larvae found by tapping and probing into oak trees. Also feeds on sap from sap holes created by red-breasted sapsuckers and consumes a variety of berry seeds
