Bird

Was abundant on the island with a population estimated to be around 70,000 before the 1960s. It evolved in the absence of predators until the brown tree snake was accidentally transported from its native range in Papua New Guinea as a stowaway in military ship cargo. The snake became well established and the rail populations plummeted along with the rest of Guam's native avifauna.
